I think that's great how you keep a list like that!
I had all the birds marked in a field guide with boxes for checking off in the index, but I had to remember where I'd seen them all to add the state beside each bird!
By the way, the bird book I mentioned is called (a golden guide to)"Birds of North America", it's one of my favorites.
